2012 Primetime Emmy Awards - BEST DRESSED

image

1. Ginnifer Goodwin (wearing Monique L’huillier)
WHY?: From the moment Ginnifer Goodwin walked onto the red carpet, I was in absolute awe. The color, the detail, the way this dress is immaculate against her pale skin tone, EVERYTHING about this look is spectacular. Ginnifer’s pixie cut is adorable on her, her face/makeup is flawless. I’m just in love with everything that’s going on here. Also, the matching of the Christian Louboutin shoes pull everything together. Yes, please. I love you.

image

2. Sofia Vergara (wearing Zuhair Murad)
WHY?: Let’s face it, Sofia Vergara is HANDS DOWN the most beautiful woman of the moment. Every woman wants to be her, every man (including the gays) want to date her. There’s just no way around it. She knows her best assets (which is everything), she knows how to wear dresses (and clothing) that looks immaculate on her, and there’s nothing anyone can do but just look at her in awe.

This turquoise, sequined gown is a dress that demands attention. If we’re all being honest, we want to give that attention to Sofia Vergara, because we are just in love with her. Your stylist is amazing, your taste is amazing, and I just love everything about you.

3. Julie Bowen (wearing Monique L’huillier)
WHY?: Before I knew that this was Julie Bowen wearing this colored dress, I was absolutely in love with the way the color stuck out in the audience on my television. Sure, there were other yellow dresses worn last night, but THIS dress was the one that caught my attention. The color is more of a lime-yellow color, but I feel that it’s so on trend, and THE COLOR to steal the spotlight, which is exactly what she did.

The design, although much simpler than the L’huillier gown that Ginnifer Goodwin wore, is still spectacular. The fit on Julie is beautiful, the color is beautiful, she doesn’t look overly thin - as she has in the past, and I am just in love. I want this.

4. Ariel Winter (wearing Katherine Kidd)
WHY?: I have been so pleased with the way Ariel Winter is styled for big award shows, for awhile now. Applause to your stylist honey, you look beautiful. In an award show where many prints just fell into the “TOO MUCH” category, this print is perfection. It’s a big print, it’s an obvious print, but it’s not overwhelming, as the others were. The color is perfect for the end of summer event, the matching shoes - that match a minimal color in the print - easily ties the entire look together in a wonderful way. The hair is appropriate for her age, as is the makeup, without making her look too mature. There is absolutely nothing wrong with anything about this look.

image

5. Heidi Klum (wearing Alexander Vauthier)
WHY?: Heidi Klum is not only beautiful, but still considered one of the sexiest women in the world. Age is but a number, when it comes to her. The sexy thigh-high slits in this dress, to some, would be considered too provocative, but I disagree. The color of this dress works perfectly with her skin, her hair & makeup is beautiful. I really can’t say anything other than beautiful. The only issue that I have, is with the shoes, but the rest is just so stunning that I can forgive that mishap.

2012 Primetime Emmy Awards - WORST DRESSED

WORST

image

1. Lena Dunham (wearing Prada)
WHY?: So, Lena Dunham isn’t the typical, stick-skinny actress that we’re used to seeing in Hollywood. On that note, that is no excuse for her to wear a dress that looks like heavy drapes in your living room. This dress gives Lena too much volume, makes her look like she’s about a size 18 instead (there’s nothing wrong with being that size, however when you’re not a larger sized woman, you never want to wear a dress that makes you look that way). There’s just too much to the dress, it looks to heavy, and it does absolutely nothing for this talented young woman.

image

2. Julianne Moore (wearing Christian Dior)
WHY?: I will admit that I rarely like anything Julianne Moore wears, on past red carpets. I think it’s probably a conflict of taste. The good, about this dress, is that I love the color and I love the bodice of the dress. I even like the makeup she’s wearing, as well as her hair with the dress. My major problem is the skirt of the dress. There’s a line between a full skirt, and a skirt that has too much material you KNOW the wearer had the hardest time moving in it. This dress falls into the latter category.

image

3. Tina Fey (wearing Vivienne Westwood)
WHY?: I love Tina Fey. I love that she’s wearing color, and a color that’s on trend for Fall at that. That’s about all that I love about this look, however. I feel that this dress does absolutely nothing for her. Her shape is bland, her chest - in this dress - does absolutely nothing for me, her hair is bland, makeup is bland. There’s just nothing right about this dress, on Tina.

image

4. Claire Danes (wearing Lanvin)
WHY?: I love the color of this dress, that isn’t my issue. I feel that this dress is absolutely ill-fitting, all around. I am aware that Claire Danes is pregnant, however she’s on the red carpet at a massive award show. Being pregnant doesn’t give her the excuse to dress in an expensive potato sack. That’s what this dress looks like, on her, in my opinion.

Many women have walked the red carpet, while pregnant, and have looked beautiful doing so. I just don’t understand how she thought this would be a great look for her. It’s upsetting.

image

5. Kat Dennings (wearing J. Mendel)
WHY?: My criticism on this dress is simple, it all comes down to the ill-fitting shape of the bodice. When you have a larger chest, there are ways to “show it off” appropriately, and then there are ways to just make yourself look classless. Unfortunately for Kat Dennings, she falls under the latter category. This photo is one of the more tasteful representations of the dress on her figure, but when she walked out to present an award, all I was thinking was, “I hope they have super duty tape holding this to her chest!” I was utterly afraid there was going to be some Janet Jackson action happening on my television screen.

Kat, honey, the rest of you looks immaculate! Your hair is beautiful, your makeup is beautiful. Even the burnt orange color of this dress is perfection on your skintone & with your hair color. Just please, next time make sure the cups of the dress fit your chest. That’s all I ask, and that’s the only reason you’re in my worst dressed category.

FASHION DONE RIGHT: Gwen Stefani

What makes this outfit so amazing, to me, is that Gwen was able to pull off a look I would otherwise despise (print-on-print) and make it work. Leopard print is a classic, it’s a fashion staple. This print is seen in all types of fashion genres – from a classic, posh lady, to a rockabilly pin-up girl. However, I can never seem to get behind print-on-print looks, especially not an all-over print that is done in THREE separate pieces! This is probably the 1% of the time I would EVER find this type of outfit acceptable. There’s just something about this look, and her, that makes it amazing to me.

Each item is tailored impeccably to Gwen, her sleek hair style, as well as the matching black sunglasses and stiletto pumps, bring everything together from head-to-toe. Lastly, her signature red lips give the edge that she’s known for, without losing trace of the classiness such a suit brings to anyone.

FASHION DONE WRONG: Lea Michele

Seriously, what was her stylist thinking?

First, I’ll start with the outfit. This educated ballerina look is a mess on Lea’s petite frame. While I am ok with the midi-length look in trends, I feel that it’s only wearable by people who are 5’7+ in height. Otherwise, a midi-length dress, skirt, even pants will cut off a petite person’s body and make them look dumpy. Next, the deep-v cut of the bodice in this dress, while acceptable due to her small chest, needed to be taped at a more appropriate place. It’s a disgrace when you can see someone’s tan lines, because a neckline shifts. If she didn’t want to have this dressed taped at a more appropriate place, maybe she should’ve thought about getting a spray tan to cover up those lines from an obvious tanning day at the beach or poolside. It makes you look trashy Lea, not classy. Lastly, why are you wearing long-sleeves in the middle of July? This Fox party was held in Los Angeles, and as a resident of the area I know damn well it was nowhere near cold enough to wear long sleeves to this event. Add in the lights, the lack of breeze that LA has been getting, she had to be swealtering in this outfit! Also, while this looks like a chiffon fabric, it still feels to me like there’s not enough breathability in those sleeves to even make it somewhat acceptable. This is a fall season dress, not the middle of summer.

Secondly, those shoes! A charmeuse or satin covered platform pump, that has a squared toe? Again, what in the world was her stylist thinking? Did she fire her stylist and pick this out on her own? I really hope so, because any professional who would send a client of theirs down a red carpet in these shoes, once again – in the MIDDLE of summer, needs to find another job title because fashion is NOT YOUR CALLING. A nice peep toe, maybe in the silver/gunmetal color of the dress’ belt, would’ve looked more put together than this mess!

Lastly, her hair. Yeah, a messy braid is in trend right now, I get it. The braid done on Lea’s hair, however, looks like a child’s first or second attempt at braiding hair. I can’t even tell it’s a braid, by actually looking at it, if I didn’t know what it’s supposed to be. Also, those bangs. Her hairstylist needs to do something with them, they look a greasy mess. Was she on her third or fourth day of not washing her hair? That’s what it looks like from the wretched separation of the strands. If you’re going to wear bangs, please make sure to have a consistent upkeep on them. Otherwise, grow them out and never look back girl.

tumblrbot asked: WHERE WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO VISIT ON YOUR PLANET?

On my planet, what a curious question. I’ve always wanted to visit Egypt, but that’s not the safest anymore. I guess I will go with Europe. Yes, all of it. I want to see all the amazing history there.

kyhuk asked: My gf loves your blog! lol

Awe thank you. I haven’t updated much, as of late, but I have some stuff I will be uploading soon. xo

Fashionable UPDATE!

I know I have a few things that I need to get updated on this blog, and I will take some time to do it tomorrow. However, I have super awesome news that I want to share.

As of late this afternoon I OFFICIALLY got a wardrobe job!

Starting early April I will be working in the costume design/wardrobe department for Late Night With Conan O’Brien which I am INCREDIBLY excited about.

When I first started going to FIDM I wasn’t 100% sure what I wanted to do with my degree. After sitting in on a presentation by industry costume designers, assistant designers, and a current FIDM student who was interning in the wardrobe department I knew THAT was what I wanted to do. However, getting any sort of “IN” when it comes to wardrobe, in the industry, is a hard thing - it’s very hit or miss.

When I was interning at Paramount, I was hoping I would be able to find some sort of possible connection there, which didn’t pan out. C’est la vie. It just wasn’t meant to be, but it didn’t mean I was going to give up.

…And I never gave up. Look where it got me! I’m excited. There really aren’t words to describe how excited I am for this opportunity. I will probably have updates pertaining to this great turn of events, once everything starts happening.

Until then… <3

BEST DRESSED: Leslie Mann @ Writer’s Guild Awards 2012(in MARIA LUCIA HOHAN)
WHY: This is how you wear a strapless gown, when you have small boobs. While the length of this dress (tea length) would be greatly represented if Leslie had 2-3in more to her height, I think it’s still adorable. Yeah, it’s a younger type of dress, but I still think it looks great on her. Even though the color should wash her out, due to the closeness to her skintone, I think it still works. What would I change? The shoes. That pretty rose color charmeuse belt, that is on the dress. I think that would’ve made an excellent shoe color.

WORST DRESSED: Kristen Wiig @ Writer’s Guild Awards(in VALENTINO Pre-Fall 2012 Collection)
WHY: This is how NOT to rock a jumpsuit. First off, she’s gotten way too skinny. Due to the weightloss, she has absolutely no boobs. When you don’t have boobs, it’s usually easier to wear strapless things - right? In this case, WRONG, DEAD WRONG. The top part of this jumpsuit is so ill-fitting, that what little boobies Ms. Wiig has going for her, aren’t even being encased in the bodice. It’s just completely unflattering. Fail, major fail.

Burberry A/W ‘12 - Womenswear

1. Clemence Poesy - best known for her role as Fleur Delacour in the Harry Potter series, as well as her role in 127 Hours & a short gig on Gossip Girl

2. Jeremy Irvine - I had to look this man up. Typical “bad boy” image, but revamped and made more upscale. Best known for his role in War Horse.

3. Sonam Kapoor - Everything about this look is 100% right. She is a well-known Bollywood actress.

Grammy Awards 2012 - Best Dressed List

#1: Miranda Lambert in PAVONI
WHY: Considering she was 1-1/2hrs late to get ready, thanks to her driver… This is the BEST I have seen her look in ANY award show for the past few years! Usually she doesn’t dress her body that well, but THIS is spectacular. Such an improvement, so beautiful on camera - maybe not in photos as MUCH - but just amazing.

#2: Adele in ARMANI PRIVE
WHY:
Girl knows what looks good on her, makeup is flawless. Amazing!

#3: Carrie Underwood in GOMEZ-GRACIA
WHY:
If #1 & #2 weren’t so great, she would win. LOVE her, GORGEOUS! Carrie Underwood is just flawless, although I feel the dress looks better on camera, rather than in photographs. Still, spectacular!

#4: Kelly Osbourne in TONY WARD
WHY: This is Kelly Osbourne we’re talking about, here. While she’s definitely upped her fashion game in the past few years, she still hasn’t hit the nail on the head at an award show, until NOW. This is the absolute best I have EVER seen her look. Amazing.

#5: Katy Perry in ELIE SAAB
WHY: This works, for me, because this dress is just so utterly GORGEOUS. Sure, media have said that it’s too “matronly”, but when you look at the detail of the dress it’s the complete opposite. The only thing that doesn’t work for me, with this look, is that it’s completely matchy-matchy. I just can’t fault that fact, with it being such a spectacular dress.

#6: Skylar Grey in ?
WHY: Sure, critics have said the look is too “Gothic”, but I think it completely works for her. There’s just no denying that.

#7: Jessie J in JULIEN MACDONALD
WHY: Jessie J has finally stepped into the world of fashion. Instead of using a gimmicky, costumed look, she is wearing a gorgeous dress. It still maintains the slight edge that she’s known for, but this dress is just stunning.
